The latest edition of the Utrikes namnbok has been released by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The book gives the official names for government departments, countries and titles in seven languages.
However, even the book’s editor admits that it may not hit the bestseller list, “If the new edition has not been eagerly awaited, it has at least been in demand, as many know that the previous edition is out of date,” said terminologist Bengt Baedecke at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Language Services.
It was also a much bigger task than first thought, continued Mr Baedecke: “I thought initially it would be a relatively easy task to revise Utrikes namnbok, but it soon became clear that quite a lot has changed since 2009.”
For the curious, the answer, at least for Sweden, is Myanmar.
