Annie Khalid is best known for singing “Mahiya” the sound track to the Bollywood film Awarapan. Back in the UK to launch her debut English-language single, Annie has teamed up with Judge Jules to present a pop dance classic.
Billed as Pakistan’s answer to Britney Spears, Annie was born in Lahore, but moved to the UK as a child. She now divides her time between Europe and the subcontinent. She modelled for BNS Couture at L’Oreal Karachi Fashion week, gigged in Norway to raise money for the Red Cross and launched her single at the Pakistani High Commission in London.
Speaking to The Global Herald Annie Khalid confirmed that she will be appearing once more on the catwalk in 2011 for Ammar Belal, a renowned Pakistani Fashion Designer:
It was great being on the ramp. You’re centre of attention, all eyes are on you. The adrenaline is the same as performing. It was a fab experience. I’ll definitely do it again next year.
Annie had just stepped off the plane from Oslo as she spoke, having had a great response in the city. She was the final act in a classical concert raising money for the Norwegian Red Cross. Her dance routine soon had the audience out of their seats and joining in. She performed her new single as well as a forthcoming bilingual track written in English and Urdu.
Annie will jet off again in November to visit flood affected areas in Pakistan. She is waiting for the OK from organisers who are in the process of relocating a refugee camp. She will then meet victims of the floods and lend her support to fundraising initiatives.
Meanwhile, the team behind “Be My Baby” are already looking at a number of DJ’s for further collaborations. The forthcoming album will be released in 2011 and the next single is out in February 2011.
Be My Baby is a sultry house remix with an Eastern twist. It will be released on 25th October 2010.
