King Tutankhamun Statues Missing After Egypt Unrest

It has been reported that 18 artefacts, including statues of King Tutankhamunare missing from the Egyptian Museum.  It is thought intruders broke into the Museum and stole the artefacts.

The head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr Zahi Hawass, said the missing objects include 11 wooden shabti statuettes from Yuya, a gilded wooden statue of Tutankhamun carried by a goddess and a statue of Nefertiti making offerings.

It is believed the robbers used a fire escape to break in through the roof of the museum, looking for gold and jewels. After finding none, they smashed display cases and statues, and left with the missing statues and artifacts.

The police and army are following up the break in.
