James Cunnama and Yvonne van Vlerken Triumph in Austria

James Cunnama and Yvonne van Vlerken have triumphed at the Tyrol Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkl triathlon.

Heavy rain battered competitors at the Austrian event, which included a 1.9km swim, 90km bike over two loops with 1,100 m of altitude difference and a final running stage of 21km over four laps.

Todd Skipworth was first out of the water in the men’s event. Skipworth led through the cycling and just into the run before James Cunnama of South Africa and Timo Bracht of Germany took the lead. Cunnama finished in 3:55:43, just 28 seconds ahead of Bracht. Todd Skipworth came in third, 27 seconds behind Bracht.

Jodie Swallow of Britain led the ladies out of the water, but the mighty van Vlerken resurrected her race from four minutes behind in sixth place. The Dutch athlete clawed back position during the cycling stage and won in a time of 4:19:13. Jodie Swallow came in as second in 4:21:42. Kaisa Lehtonen took the third place.
