ICC Cricket World Cup 2011: India Edge Out Australia in Quarter Final
By Robin Scott; published on March 24, 2011 at 6:22 pm
There will be a different name on the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 than there were the last three times, after India overcame the holding champions, Australia, at Ahmedabad on the evening of Thursday 24th March 2011.
An impressive 13th ODI century from captain Ricky Ponting, helped Australia to 260 for 6 from their 50 Overs, after Australia won the toss and elected to bat, however, India constructed their innings superbly, to finish the match with a couple of overs to spare, finishing with 5 wickets in hand, as Yuvraj (57 Not Out) hit four runs to take them to 261 for 5 on 47.4 Overs.
India won this Quarter Final by 5 wickets – deposing Australia, the team which won the last three ICC Cricket World Cups (and has appeared in an amazing six finals) in the process.
India have much to thank Yuvraj (57 Not Out) and Raina (34 Not Out) for, however, as the two put on an excellent 74 run partnership with the score having been close at 187 for 5 to take home the victory in front of their vociferous home support.
India have a massive opponent in the Semi-Final, where they will face arch rivals, Pakistan, who were in excellent form to dispose of West Indies on Wednesday.
