Horse Racing: UK Weather Leads to Blank Card

Horse racing in Britain sees an entirely blank card today after the heavy snowfall across the country caused even the “All Weather” cards at Lingfield and Kempton Park to be abondoned.

Meetings on turf this week have been suffering, and yesterday only one of the courses scheduled to have racing took place: on the all weather at Southwell racecourse.

Meetings across the country have been abandoned already for Friday and Saturday with several others inspecting before the weekend. The forecast would suggest that few will survive the current cold snap.

Sedgefield has today abandoned its card for Saturday, along with Wincanton and Hereford. Bangor on Dee and Fontwell have already abandoned their Friday meetings too.

Anyone expecting to go horse racing in the UK this week is advised to check with the course or online whether racing is due to go ahead before making any journey.
