The sixth, and final, race of the Meydan card on Saturday 21st January 2012, was the 21:20 Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group Thoroughbred Handicap run over 1400M (approximately 7 furlongs) on the All-Weather surface.
The runners were competing for a share of USD $110,000 in prize money, of which the winner would collect $66,000.
The race was won in some style by Ip Man who was produced half way along the straight by jockey Oscar Chavez, and, in just a few strides, had raced clear of the pack to win handsomely.
In second, just, by a short head, was Primaeval under Jamie Spencer, who took the runner-up spot narrowly from Tamaathul under Richard Hills. Next home in a bunch was Global City ridden by Kieren Fallon, but none of the 14 strong field could produce anything to stop the impressive Ip Man.
Ip Man’s win broke the course record over this trip, and was Singapore trainer, Steven Burridge’s third winner from only four runners at Dubai Racing Carnival 2012.
