Tim Clark, of South Africa, has won Golf’s USPGA Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass after the long-time leader Lee Westwood fell away with an uncharacteristically poor back nine.

Clark shot a final round 67 to finish the Championship on -16, just one shot ahead of Australian Robert Allenby on -15.

Brit golfer Lee Westwood had lead the tournament since the second round, but shot  a poor back nine, which included a bogey and a double-bogey, before eventually finishing four shots from the lead after a disappointing 74.

Clark, by contrast, finished with a final two rounds of 66-67 to lift Golf’s richest prize.

Tiger Woods retired with a neck injury, though, at the time, he was off the pace at two under, while Phil Mickelson, this year’s form player in the USPGA, shot a poor 74 to finish on -7 when a good round would have put him well in the frame once more.
