The remaining eight UEFA Champions League 2011/12 Group stage fixtures take place on the evening of Wednesday 7th December 2011, when the teams in groups A, B, C and D face-off to see who will enter the hat for the Round of 16.
UEFA Champions League 2011/12 Group A
Bayern Munich have already won Group A, but Napoli lie second, one point ahead of Manchester City, who are third. City need to win at home against Bayern, and hope that bottom club Villarreal can prevent Napoli from picking up a win in Spain if they are to progress. A win for Napoli, and they are in the next phase, and Man City must take the drop to Europa.
UEFA Champions League 2011/12 Group B
Inter Milan have raced away to the Group B success, but the other three clubs in this pool of four are split by just one point. Trabzonspor are ahead of Lille, who they face this evening, away, by a point, though both must be wary of CSKA Moscow who face Inter in Italy with the Serie A giants in an effective dead rubber.
UEFA Champions League 2011/12 Group C
Group C is another that is too close to call, as Benfica and Manchester United currently share the lead on 9 points just 1 point ahead of Basel who are third. FC Basel welcome Man Utd in a high stakes encounter with the English Premier League Champions, while Benfica know a win against bottom side Otelul Galati – who are still pointless – will be enough to put them through as table toppers.
UEFA Champions League 2011/12 Group D
Group D has been dominated by Real Madrid, making tonight a straight shootout for second place between Ajax and Lyon. Ajax entertain Real, knowing that anything but defeat will be enough to see their current three point lead hold. Lyon can get level on points, but the other separating factors mean the most likely result even then would be they still take the UEFA Europa place. Real Madrid don’t need to win, but, based on this year’s Champions League form, probably will.
