Football: UEFA Champions League 2011 Round of 16 2nd Leg Results, Wednesday 16 March

The final two teams to go into Friday’s UEFA Champions League 2011 Quarter Final draw were decided on the evning of Wednesday 16th March 2011.

Chelsea 0-0 FC Copenhagen (agg 2-0)

Having carried a 2-0 win from the away leg, there was always a danger that Chelsea would play a cagey match at Stamford Bridge, though, in truth, this 0-0 result, which was enough to see the London side through 2-0 on aggregate, saw Chelsea outplay Copenhagen in all but the final third, where they would usually have expected to turn superior possession into at least one goal.

The Copenhagen fans who made the trip were in good voice throughout, but their side rarely threatened to make a serious impression on Nicolas Anelka’s brace from a fortnight ago.

Real Madrid 3-0 Lyon (agg 4-1)

Real Madrid came through the second leg better than they fared in the first by winning 3-0 at home to progress with a 4-1 aggregate scoreline over French side, Lyon.

Marcelo settled the home fans’ nerves with a 37th minute goal which gave Real a 1-0 half time lead. When Benzema scored on 66 minutes, and Di Maria added a third ten minutes later, the fight went from the visitors, and Real played out a comfortable 3-0 home win.
