Football: UEFA Champions League 2011 Quarter Final 2nd Leg Fixtures, Wednesday 13 April 2011

The remaining UEFA Champions League 2011 Quarter Final second leg matches will be played on the evening of Wednesday 13th April 2011, when Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan will be looking to overcome heavy first leg defeats and qualify for the Semi-Finals against Real Madrid and Schalke 04 respectively.

Schalke 04 v Inter Milan (aggregate 5-2) – Kick-Off (CET) 20:45

Schalke have one foot in a Semi Final with Manchester United courtesy of a three goal advantage and an incredible five away goals carried forward from the first leg. Inter performed heroics in the Round of 16 to overcome a home defeat against Bayern Munich, but this looks an incredibly tall order in Germany again.

Tottenham v Real Madrid (aggregate 0-4) – Kick-Off (CET) 20:45

If Schalke’s task is big, that of Tottenham Hotspur is monumental: they carry zero away goals from the opening leg carnage they suffered in Madrid, thanks, largely to losing Peter Crouch to a 15th minute sending off. Spurs showed that they can create one or two chances in that match, particularly through the impressive Gareth Bale, and also showed they can come-back when turning a 4-0 half-time scoreline in the San Siro against Inter into a 4-3 loss, but this is an even bigger task against the second best team in La Liga.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been there, seen it, and done it in the UEFA Champions League and his men are strong favourites to progress at White Hart Lane. The winner of this tie is ‘rewarded’ with a Semi Final against Barcelona.

Barring the biggest turnaround in Champions League history – no side has ever recovered from a 4-0 (or worse) first leg defeat – it looks odds on to be an “El Classico” Semi-Final in 2011.
