Barcelona travelled to Copenhagen in UEFA Champions League Group D last night and came home with only a pojnt despite hitting the woodwork three times in their 1-1 draw with FC Copenhagen.
Lionel Messi finally got the visitors off the mark with a snapshot from within the area on 31 minutes, but Copenhagen took less than 60 seconds to produce a good equaliser from Claudemir, who stabbed home a volley after a deflected cross.
The same player, Claudamir, had produced a special moment in the opening three minutes when he drilled a phenomenal 30 yard effort at the Barcelona goal which hit the angle of crossbar and post.
Barcelona had perhaps the better of the chances in this match, but met with stiff opposition in Johan Wiland in the Copenhagen net, as the keeper produced a fine performance to help his side secure a good point against tough opposition.
Barcelona had most of the possession, but Copenhagen matched them for shots on target, marking this out as a deserved point for the hosts.
Barca will need to play better than this if they are to go deep in this season’s UEFA Champions League, while Copenhagen will be delighted that their point takes them a step closer to knockout round qualification from Group D.
