According to the Arsenal club website, their captain, Cesc Fabregas, is 90% certain to play some part in their important UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie at Barcelona’s Camp Nou on Tuesday.
According to the item, Fabregas will face a late fitness test on Monday, following which, if the player passes, he will board the plane to Spain with the rest of his team-mates.
The player has not featured for Arsenal since injuring a hamstring in a Barclays Premier League match against Stoke City, and had been expected to miss the second leg against Barca – into which Arsenal carry a 2-1 aggregate lead from the opening leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Jack Wilshere, Fabregas’ young midfield partner has also been declared fit despite picking up a knock in Saturday’s Premier League draw at home to Sunderland, though Theo Walcott has not recovered from his ankle injury in time to make the trip to Spain. Arsenal defender Alex Song will also miss out with a knee injury picked up on the weekend.
The club’s manager, Arsene Wenger, also told a briefing on Monday morning that “everybody else who played on Saturday should be available.”
