A pair of English FA Cup Fifth Round Fixtures are scheduled for the evening of Wednesday 2nd March 2011, as one replay, and one match which was delayed as a result of a Fourth Round replay, are due to take place.
Arsenal v Leyton Orient – Kick-Off (GMT) 19:45 (5th Round replay)
Arsenal will still be licking their wounds after something of a shock defeat in the Carling Cup Final on Sunday, and they will be desperate to get the job done at the Emirates Stadium in this evening’s replay with Leyton Orient, of the third tier of English football. In the original fixture, Arsenal had led 1-0 before Orient – known as “the Os” grabbed a late equaliser.
Arsenal will hope that they can get more than one goal from this match, though they will have to do so without the talents of Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Laurent Koscielny and Alex Song who have all joined the Gunners’ worryingly long injury list. Almunia will replace Szczesny in the Arsenal goal.
Leyton Orient will miss Harry Kane who is suspended, and have a number of late fitness questions to ask for Matthew Spring and Jimmy Smith, as the team from League One look to be only from outside of the top two divisions in the Quarter Final round.
If the match is level after 90 minutes, it will go to extra time and, if still level at the end of extra time, penalties.
The winner is rewarded with a tough quarter final fixture with Manchester United.
Man City v Aston Villa – Kick-Off (GMT) 19:45
Manchester City and Aston Villa face-off to decide who will meet Reading at home in the FA Cup 2011 Sixth Round.
Both of these Premier League sides have spent much of this season at opposite ends of the table: City have always been near the top; while Villa have been at the other end for much of this term. However, recent form would indicate the gulf between these two sides is only as small as the one or two league positions which have split these clubs in the past few seasons: City have dropped points; while Villa have picked up some emphatic wins of late.
City, already enjoying the home support, will be buoyed by the potential return of Silva and Micah Richards, who are both fit to play following injury lay-offs, though they will be missing four other potential first choices who remain on the injury list: Vincent Kompany, Nigel de Jong, Adam Johnson and Shay Given are all confirmed injuries.
Villa will miss Nathan Baker, as the left-back has a concussion, Carlos Cuellar and James Collins, who are both also injured. Jean Makoun is suspended for this fixture.
