Last year’s relegated EPL side, Burnley, knocked Port Vale, of League Two, out of the 2011 FA Cup in their Third Round tie on Saturday 8th January 2011.
Burnley went in at half time 2-1 up, after a fourth minute Clarke Carlisle header put them ahead. Just over ten minutes later, a close range Robert Taylor finish levelled for Vale, before Tyrone Mears restored Burnley’s lead on 21 minutes by scoring direct from a free-kick.
In the second half, Eagles added a goal to the assist he had given Carlisle with a powerful finish on 50 minutes, before Graha: Alexander put the result beyond doubt with a 76th minute penalty.
Robert Taylor grabbed a late consolation with another close range finish, but Burnley ran out deserved 4-2 winners, having dominated this match for large periods. Vale will be pleased that they managed to get a two goal return, and will hope that this performance can propel them to build upon their current play-off league position.
