Football: Blackburn v Aston Villa Carling Cup Semi Final Postponed

By ; published on January 5, 2010 at 1:37 pm

The first leg of the English Semi Final between Blackburn and , which was due to take place at Ewood Park this evening, has been postponed due to the freezing conditions in the North West of England.

While the playing surface is in good enough condition for the match to take place, the decision to postpone the match was taken in consultation with local police due to fears that supporters would have difficulty getting to and from the match in the sub-zero weather.

A statement on the club website read:

“While the pitch is playable, it would be unadvisable to expect fans and staff to attempt to get to the match.Even if fans are able to get to Ewood Park we would not like to speculate on what type of journey home they may face at 2200 GMT when temperatures will be sub-zero.

The weather forecast states we can expect more snow and freezing temperatures in Lancashire and that heavy snow is expected in the Midlands later and will continue into the early hours of Wednesday.

The decision was taken in conjunction with the police and following consultation with the Football League.”

We seldom see that Blackburn running in a poor form in such long time and they were the first time in 11 winless. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. Rovers should facing some internal problems yet to be solved. The players and coach shall not able focus today.

Aston Villa is having enough rest since the match has been postponed. Their overall performance is still good in this season. Villa again to knock Blakcburn out since their last disqualified Blackburn in FA Cup.
