Three Barclays Premier League matches took place on the evning of Wednesday 29th December 2010.
Chelsea 1-0 Bolton
Chelsea ended their spell of horrible recent form – which had seen them go six league matches without a win – by producing a much improved second half performance at home to Bolton Wanderers.
Chelsea were lacklustre in the opening 45 minutes, but their manager Carlo Ancelotti will have felt the pressure on him ease a little thanks to Florent Malouda‘s 60th minute winner. Chelsea went on to win 1-0.
Liverpool 0-1 Wolverhampton
Wolves finally got the big result their recent good performances looked to have deserved by defeating this season’s underachievers, Liverpool, at Anfield. Wolverhampton climbed off the bottom of the table thanks to the three points they won away this evening courtesy of Stephen Ward‘s 56th minute finish.
Wigan 2-2 Arsenal
Arsenal missed an opportunity to go level on points with the two Manchester sides at the top of the league this evening as they were held to a 2-2 draw away at struggling Wigan.
The hosts took the lead after a mazy run from Charles N’Zogbia ended with a clumsy challenge on the edge of the box. Replays showed that referee, Probert, was perhaps sold a dive, but Watson was ruthless from the spot, giving Wigan an 18th minute lead.
A goal each from Arshavin and Bendtner on 39 and 44 minutes respectively ensured the Gunners would come in 2-1 up, however.
But it was to be another Arsenal player, Sebastian Squillaci, who proved to be the villain in the 81st minute, as the Arsenal defender headed into his own net, giving Wigan a point to put them as many ahead of the drop zone.
Arsenal go third in the table, two ahead of Chelsea, and two behind Manchesters City and United.
