Two Barclays Premier League football matches took place yesterday evening, on Tuesday 9th November 2010.
Tottenham Hotspur played out a 1-1 home draw with Sunderland, as the hosts were unable to build on in-form Van der Vaart’s 64th minute strike. It took Asamoah Gyan just three minutes to level for the Black Cats and put Sunderland’s dreadful 5-1 Tyne-Wear derby hammering at the hands of rivals Newcastle to the back of supporters minds.
Tottenham ended the evening in sixth place in the league, on 16 points, while Sunderland are just one place behind, equal on points, with a marginally worse goal difference.
Stoke and Birmingham played out an entertaining match, with Dean Whitehead scoring a dramatic winner for the hosts at Stoke City’s Brittania Stadium, to clinch the 3-2 thriller.
Stoke had led 1-0 at half time through a 44th minute Robert Huth goal, and doubled their lead via Ricardo Fuller’s 71st minute strike, but Birmingham stormed back into the match with two goals in two minutes coming from Fahey (74) and Jerome (76).
Dean Whitehead scored in the 85th minute to clinch three vital points for Stoke, which saw them climb to 15th in the table on 13 points ahead of tonight’s matches. Birmingham now sit just two points ahead of the relegation places in 17th on 12 points.
