There are five Barclays Premier League fixtures scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, 26th February 2011.
Aston Villa v Blackburn – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Villa will look to pull further away from the relegation places with this home match against Blackburn. Aston Villa sit 16th in the league, on 30 points, while Blackburn are 11th on 32: if Villa win, the’ll leapfrog their opponents and head towards the top half finish that must have been their minimum requirement at the start of the season. Lose, and Villa will be within three – or fewer – points of relegation.
Everton v Sunderland – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Everton v Sunderland sees 14th play 7th in what will be a difficult match to predict, based upon the inconsistency evidenced by both of these sides this season. Everton’s squad selection troubles continue as they may be without Jack Rodwell, Tim Cahill, Marouane Fellaini, Victor Anichebe and Louis Saha.
Sunderland will likely miss goalkeeper Craig Gordon as well as Fraizer Campbell, Michael Turner and David Meyler.
Newcastle v Bolton – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Newcastle, who are 9th, sit just one point behind Bolton, who are 8th in the league, which adds no little intrigue to this match at St James’ Park.
Newcastle’s striking worries are set to continue, as Shola Ameobi remains sidelines, while Peter Lovenkrands looks unlikely to start the match with a thigh strain. With home advantage counting for much in the North East, this match is still difficult to call, and Newcastle have produced plenty of goals – including in their 4-4 thriller against Arsenal -without playing an established centre forward.
Wigan v Man Utd – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
Manchester United travel to Wigan looking to extend their lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League: they are one point ahead of Arsenal, who are out of action as a result of their Carling Cup Final on Sunday. Wigan need all three points to be certain of an exit from the drop zone, though one will see them draw level with West Brom, one place above them, in 17th.
Ryan Giggs and Michael Owen return to the Man Utd squad, while Rio Ferdinand is still missing for the visitors. Tom Cleverley will not be eligible to play against United, his parent club, for Wigan, while Boyce and McManaman face late fitness tests for the Latics.
Wolverhampton v Blackpool – Kick-Off (GMT) 15:00
An entertaining prospect awaits the fans at Molineux in a match between two relegation candidates who know better how to attack than defend, this season. Wolves missed out on three points last week to a last-gasp equaliser at West Brom; they will be looking for better today to help lift themselves off the foot of the table.
Blackpool will be without their key player, Charlie Adam, who is suspended, as well as the eight players already on their injury list: Basham, Clarke, Gilks, Rachubka, Crainey, Grandin, Taylor-Fletcher and Sbai are all confirmed out of this match.
Wolverhampton, on the other hand, have only Edwards, who has a groin injury, in questionable condition, to add to the three or four players who are injured longer term.
