Barcelona despite a brief worry when they went a goal behind on the night and on aggregate dispatched Arsenal F.C. somewhat ruthlessly at home by four goals to one, making their aggregate scoreline 6-3. All four goals on the night were scored by world’s best player, Argentine Lionel Messi.
Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan, by contrast, added another 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow to their first round home win of the same scoreline, despite dominating by more than that margin over the two legs.
The two sides will face each other on 20th April 2010 in Milan, and 28th April 2010 in Camp Nou, Barcelona, where the contrasting styles these teams play – Barcelona’s gung-ho attacking football against Inter Milan’s tight defence – will provide one of the spectacles of the season.
Barcelona are looking to lift back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles, as well as a domestic league (Spain’s La Liga) and Champions League double.
