Entertainment: Cheryl Cole Leaves Husband Ashley

Following mounting speculation in the past few weeks, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole (formerly Tweedy) has announced, via a PR statement, that she is leaving her footballer husband, England and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole.

The statement reads:

Cheryl Cole is separating from her husband Ashley Cole. Cheryl asks the media to respect her privacy during this difficult time. We have no further comment to make.

Speculation had been mounting after several people came forward to the media in recent weeks claiming to have been involved romantically with Mr Cole.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with a break-up in the public eye. A divorce is painful enough.
