Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011: “The Prodigals” – Featuring Lucie Jones

The Prodigals

“The Prodigals” is a musical from Joe Harmston and Ray Goudie starring the X Factor’s Lucie Jones. The  performance follows the fate of two brothers; one who follows his father into a Scottish regiment and another who lives a life of excess and success with his band. Colonel Luke Gibson has to let his sons make their own choices until one life goes disastrously wrong, with major consequences for himself, his sons and the regiment.

The musical includes military scenes contrasted with high-energy dance to the modern sounds of UK pop. Speaking about the preparations currently taking place in London, the director Joe Harmston said:

“I don’t think I’ve ever been this stressed about opening a show! This is my first Edinburgh Fringe experience after 21 years directing plays. Despite all my experience this feels like an adrenalin-fuelled jump into the unknown; theatrical extreme sports! We’ve got a great story about something that matters, amazing music and an energised, talented cast who are ready to hit Edinburgh with maximum velocity. Now it’s just fingers crossed that someone comes!”

The Prodigals will show at at Gilded Balloon Teviot, Debating Hall, Bristo Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9AJ on Wednesday 3rd – Monday 29th August 2011. The show is at 5pm (6pm).
