Diamond Jubilee 2012: HRH The Prince of Wales becomes Patron of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant

Prince Charles, HRH The Prince of Wales, has agreed to become Patron of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, established to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of his mother, The Queen, in the summer of 2012, according to Clarence House.

The Pageant is to be one of the major celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which takes place in June 2012, and promises to feature the largest flotilla ever assembled on the Thames in modern times.

Over a thousand boats from across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth shall muster on the Thames on Sunday 3rd June 2012, stretching for seven miles from Hammersmith to West Greenwich.

The Queen shall travel down the river in the Royal Barge, at the head of the flotilla.

Passenger boats, carrying up to thirty thousand flag waving members of the public shall be among the amassed flotilla, which will also include historic boats, wooden launches, steam vessels and other boats of note.

The Diamond Jubilee Pageant has its own website, at http://www.thamesdiamondjubileepageant.org/
