China: Beijing Hit by Record Snowfall
The winter which has seen record-breaking snow storms on the west coast of the USA and freezing weather causing havoc across Great Britain continues with record snowfalls recorded in Beijing over the weekend.
Up to 30 centimetres of snow have fallen in some parts of the area immediately surrounding the Chinese capital, causing major disruption at the airport and leading to the closure of more than thirty highways in Northern China.
The snowfall is believed to be the most to have fallen on Beijing since 1951.
Many schools have closed in the region with over 2 million pupils having a day off as a result of the severe weather.
