The third day of Cheltenham Festival 2012 comes on Thursday 15th March 2012, with another day of high-class hurdling and championship chasing.
Day two saw a number of hot-pot favourites beaten, including our tip of the day, Sizing Europe who was just touched off in an entertaining and event-filled Queen Mother Champion Chase, but the quality of racing was phenomenal nonetheless and we saw plenty of placed horses at long prices from Fortuno’s tips.
The third day is World Hurdle day, with that race and the Grade 1 Ryanair Chase over 2m5f taking the spotlight.
Some long priced horses are taken to show their best form today, with Fortuno selecting Pettifour (forecast odds, 40/1) in the Pertemps Final. In the Ryanair Chase, West Witton trainer, Ferdy Murphy’s Kalahari King is chosen as a solid each-way selection: if the horse performs up to his best, he should make the frame; and Mr Murphy is due his obligatory Festival success for 2012. But the nap of the day, and the one probably more Festival favourite backers will be on today is BIG BUCK’S. This horse owes his Cheltenham supporters absolutely nothing, but, at likely odds-on, will suit only those with the deepest pockets today.
Irish fans will be hoping the Willie Mullins can follow up last night’s bumper success with an opening victory today from Sir Des Champs under Davy Russell for his owner, Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary.
