Brazil’s Attention Turns to 2016 Olympic Games

As the 2014 World Cup in Brazil draws to a close, the Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff has said that the country’s attention will now turn to the 2016 Olympic Games, which will be held in Rio.

The President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, met with President Rousseff at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasilia on Friday 11th July 2014 to discuss the upcoming games in Rio.

Rio 2016 will launch a volunteer programme next month, aiming to recruit 70,000 Brazilians to support the event. A new metro line has also been announced.

Following his meeting in Brasilia with President Rousseff, the IOC President returned to Rio to meet with Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes and Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro Luiz Fernando Pezão.

The IOC will be contributing USD $1.5 billion to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
