Afghan National Security Forces Destroy 250kg of Heroin in Afghanistan

The Australian Defence Force have supported Afghan National Security Force efforts to successfully destroy 250kg of heroin in Afghanistan following an operation in Baghran district, Helmand.

The mission was completed thanks to co-operation between the Afghan National Interdiction Unit (NIU) and the Australian Special Operations Task Group (SOTG). Six tonnes of precursor chemicals, six kilograms of pure heroin, 12 kilograms of morphine, over 400 kilograms of opium and hash, two opium presses and “a large quantity of drug manufacturing materials” were seized whilst under “continuous contact with insurgents”, according to the ADF.

It is hoped that the seizure will impact upon Taleban funding networks in Helmand and Uruzgan.
