424 People Set Guinness World Record for “Most People Wearing Sunglasses in the Dark”

424 people have set a record for the most people wearing sunglasses in the dark.  The record was set during the Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros major league baseball game on 21st June 2011. During the 6th innings at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, USA, fans in sections 314 and 315 wore sunglasses for 10 minutes as an artificial sun blocked out the light.

Although 424 people set the record, sunglasses were handed out to 30,000 fans.

The World Record Attempt was a publicity stunt sponsored by Reliant Energy, a Texas based arm of NRG Energy, who have just launched a new renewable electricity package for environmentally conscious customers. Most of those who set the record were invited as guests of the company and came from local organisations such as the Scouts.
